The Linden Street Residence

The Linden Street Residence

Tucked into the vibrant urban fabric of San Francisco's Hayes Valley neighborhood, 474 Linden Street is a striking multi-story infill development that exemplifies modern architectural geometry. Our team was selected to engineer, fabricate, and install a comprehensive exterior skin consisting of a matte black zinc roof and matching vertical wall cladding panels. The seamless transition from the structural walls to the custom curved roofline creates a dramatic, ultra-modern monolithic silhouette.

The Art of Vertical Zinc Wall Cladding

Achieving the crisp, geometric look required for this tight urban plot demanded meticulous detailing around complex window protrusions and structural bump-outs. Every architectural panel run on the building's facade was precision-mapped to line up with the floor-to-ceiling glass units. By pairing vertical zinc roof panels on the facade with flat, interlocked custom soffit systems, we established a clean, unified texture across the entire front elevation that beautifully highlights the premium metal's natural depth.

Advanced Detailing for the Curved Zinc Roof

The defining crown of the Linden Street residence is its elegant, radiused barrel-vault roof that arches over the upper story. Our installers custom-contoured the zinc standing seam roof segments to glide smoothly over the top of the structure, ensuring a continuous, unbroken transition from the vertical rear walls. This specialized radius application provides exceptional weatherproofing against dense coastal fog while utilizing a zinc roof system to maximize interior head height on the top floor.

A Premium Investment in Urban Longevity

For custom residential construction in San Francisco, selecting an exterior skin that stands up to urban elements without requiring constant maintenance is essential. While clients often weigh the unique aging process of copper for roofing against the copper roofing material cost, pre-weathered black zinc offers an elite alternative. It provides the same centuries-grade longevity as a high-end copper standing seam roof but with a contemporary, matte-black aesthetic that never looks dated.

This project stands as a prime example of our capabilities in delivering bespoke, multi-story zinc cladding solutions that define the cutting edge of modern residential architecture.
